New Delhi: Lal Bahadur Shastri served as the second Prime Minister of India, from 1964 until his sudden death in 1966. He is best known for his leadership during the 1965 India-Pakistan War, and for coining the slogan “Jai Jawan Jai Kisan” (Hail the Soldier, Hail the Farmer).  Shastri died on January 11, 1966, in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, where he had gone to sign a peace agreement with Pakistan.
